ALL IN: Week 1 – Pat Lessard

ALL IN: Week 1 – Pat Lessard

ALL IN on life

  • hunting, sports, parenting, work, relationships, health, outdoors, risk taking, coffee, cooking

What’s something in life you’re all in on?

Not ALL IN

  • playing it safe, reserved, cautious, hesitant, distant, spectator, sidelines, uncommitted, etc.

What’s something you’re involved in but not necessarily fully committed to?

ALL IN FOR THE MISSION OF JESUS AND OUR PART THAT HE’S CALLED US TO AS A CHURCH

A disciple of Jesus is one who… (Matthew 4:19)

Christ, is                                               by Christ, and is committed to the mission of                                   .

WHY I AM ALL IN BIBLICALLY… IS BECAUSE JESUS IS LORD:

  1. He is in charge. He determines the rules.
  2. He owns it all. We’re accountable to Him.

Romans 1:1-6 (ESV) 1Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, 2which he promised beforehand through his prophets in the holy Scriptures, 3concerning his Son, who was descended from David according to the flesh 4and was declared to be the Son of God in power according to the Spirit of holiness by his resurrection from the dead, Jesus Christ our Lord, 5through whom we have received grace and apostleship to bring about the obedience of faith for the sake of his name among all the nations, 6including you who are called to belong to Jesus Christ…

o Lord: Greek – kurios (koo’-ree-os): supremacy – supreme in authority, controller, i.e. God, Lord

Romans 2:1-4 (ESV) 1Therefore you have no excuse, O man, every one of you who judges. For in passing judgment on another you condemn yourself, because you, the judge, practice the very same things. 2We know that the judgment of God rightly falls on those who practice such things. 3Do you suppose, O man—you who judge those who practice such things and yet do them yourself—that you will escape the judgment of God? 4Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

Romans 12:1-2 (ESV) 1I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Romans 16:25-27 (ESV) 25Now to him who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was kept secret for long ages 26but has now been disclosed and through the prophetic writings has been made known to all nations, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith—27to the only wise God be glory forevermore through Jesus Christ! Amen.

WHY I AM ALL IN PERSONALLY…

  • Grace and truth lived out
  • God has used His church to change me.
  • I’ve seen God change others through His church.
  • Seeing the family act like a family
  • Ownership

10                       ABOUT FINANCES

  1. Regardless of what church you’re a part of, be all in there.
  2. We are to give God our first and best, not our leftover scraps.
  3. It’s better to live with 90% and God’s blessing than with 100% all on your own.
  4. Jesus had a lot to say about money! – 288 times in the Gospels.
  5. Giving is worship (not a bill). It’s a response to God and His worthiness.
  6. God doesn’t need our money, but He does want our hearts. There are few greater competitors for the thrones of our hearts than money. What we do with our money reflects our hearts and what’s most important to us.
  7. Giving requires faith and dependence on God to be our Provider.
  8. All that we have (and are!) belongs to God; we’re managers. God expects a return on His investments. We will be held accountable with what He’s entrusted to us. We will be rewarded for our faithfulness—now and later.
  9. If you’re not happy with what you have, then you will not be happy with what you want.
  10. Most of us don’t have a problem with being too generous.

5                         ABOUT FINANCES

  1. What I have is all mine.
  2. What I have is all I’m going to have (scarcity mindset).
  3. More money will finally fulfill all of my desires and relieve my problems.
  4. The church just wants my money.
  5. If I just had more, I would start being generous.
