The curse and the mission change

  • Restore us to relationship with God and each other as we live out the mission with Him

Gods’ partners in the realm of finances

  • The Restoration of partnership with a purpose
  • A house divided can’t stand
  • The V—for the married – Partnering to further the Kingdom of heaven in our slice of history

His plan for financial partnership

1. We as Christians accept that everything is Gods for His purposes

  • Good stewards —
  • Matthew 25:14-31

His purposes for what He gives us

  1. To take care of our own needs
  2. To care for the needs of others
  3. So that we bring glory to God

2. The details for life (look at resources)—

  1. building your house on the rock
  2. This helps us to focus on eternal things – savings for eternal retirement

Getting into the details of Gods kind of partnership –

  • We accept that the first 10% –for the work of the Lord in the church
  • Live within your means so that you can be a part of something bigger
  • Make a plan –together
  • Remember it’s not about the number – it’s about faithfulness
  • Even believers can struggle with finances but the lack doesn’t define us and it doesn’t necessarily mean we have been unfaithful
  • It doesn’t mean we are not rich in eternity

Celebration –so many of you have been faithful stewards – I know God is blessing you

What if –

  1. What if you are in a mess?
    • Take a class
    • Repent
    • Get a mentor to walk through with you –wise counsel
  2. What if everything seems fine and you’re not being obedient?
    • The storm is coming
    • Its empty and unprotected and temporary
  3. You are unequally yoked?
    • Be respectful – honor your husband
    • Be understanding –listen to your wife
    • Be wise in how you deal with things – God knows your hearts

Opening Question: What was one of your most impulsive purchases?

Main Point: When we follow God’s design regarding our possessions it leads to unity and the ability to partner with God in financial ways as a family.

Read/Tell the Story: Luke 12:13-21 (the Rich Fool)

Head Questions –

What was the argument that initiated Jesus telling this parable?

Why did the rich man tear down his barns?

Why did God consider this man a fool?

Heart Questions-

Where do you see yourself in this story?

How do you determine what is wise planning vs. storing up treasures in an unhealthy way?

What do you do when finances are the tension in your family?

How have you decided in your home what is prioritized when it comes to spending money?

Hands Questions-

How can you ‘guard against all forms of greed’ in your life?

What part of your finances need to be realigned to God’s design?

What is an area in which God is calling you into greater generosity?
