THIS WEEK: Obey and Experience
You come to know God by experience as you obey Him, and He accomplishes His work through you
Once you have determined to follow God by faith and you’ve made the necessary adjustments, you must obey Him. When you do what God tells you, no matter how impossible or bewildering it may seem, He carries out what He purposed through you. Not only do you experience God’s power and presence, but so do those who observe your life.
If you want to experience God’s mighty power at work in and through you, you must walk by faith, make major adjustments, and obey whatever God tells you to do.
Our difficulty in following God isn’t that we don’t know His will. Our discomfort comes from the fact that we do know His will, but we don’t want to do it.
Romans 1:5-6 (NIV) – 5Through him we received grace and apostleship to call all the Gentiles to the obedience that comes from faith for his name’s sake.
John 14:15; 21 (NIV) – 15 “If you love me, keep my commands… 21Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”
Luke 11:27-28 (NIV) – 27As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” 28He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”
James 1:22-25 (NIV) – 22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
