Welcome Prompt:
Welcome to group. This week we are starting a conversation that really matters for the life of the church. God did not save us just to leave us spiritually unstable, easily influenced, or divided from one another. He is rooting His people in truth and calling us into real unity. Remember, this group exists to help people grow in spiritual maturity in relationship, and tonight is a chance to press into both.
Opening Prayer Prompt:
Ask God to settle your heart and focus your mind. Pray that He would use His Word to root your group more deeply in Chris and strengthen your unity. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead your discussion with love and clarity so that what is shared builds up the body and honors God.
Purpose of our Small Groups at Real Life:
At Real Life, our small groups exist to help people grow in spiritual maturity in relationship.
Group Guideline:
Use “I” Statements: It is easy to talk about what Christians believe, what churches do, or what other people need to hear. But we grow in spiritual maturity when we speak personally and honestly. Try to respond with phrases like, “I think,” “I struggle with,” “I need,” or “God is showing me.”
Fun Icebreaker Question:
What is one thing you have owned or used for a long time that still works surprisingly well?
Main Idea from the Sermon:
God’s design for His church is simple but hard to live out. His desire for us is not “fighting in the huddle”, but rather, standing united, firmly rooted together in Christ.
Main Scripture:
Colossians 2:1-7
Supporting Passages: Galatians 5:25, Romans 14:19
Head Level Questions:
- In Colossians 2:1-7, what does Paul say he wants for believers? As you read the passage closely, what words or phrases stand out to you?
- Looking at Galatians 5:25 and Romans 14:19, what do these passages add to the picture of spiritual maturity?
Heart Level Questions:
- When you hear the phrase, “firmly rooted together,” does that sound encouraging, challenging, convicting, or even difficult in this season of your life?
- Paul ties spiritual strength to both truth and unity. Which of those comes more naturally to you right now, standing firm in truth or preserving unity with others? Which one is harder for you to pursue in a Christlike way?
Hands & Feet Level Questions:
- Where in your life do you need to stop contributing to “fighting in the huddle” and start pursuing unity on the line of scrimmage? This could be in your home, group, ministry team, friendships, or workplace. What would it look like to take a real step toward peace and mutual strengthening?
- How can you stay grounded in Christ and committed to His people this week?
Recap:
Tonight we saw that God’s desire is not for His people to be scattered, shallow, or easily shaken. Colossians calls believers to be united in love and firmly rooted in Christ. We talked about the difference between simply being around church things and actually being grounded in Jesus. The Christian life is not meant to look like teammates “fighting in the huddle”. It is meant to look like a people unified and ready to move together in the mission of Christ.
Closing Prayer Example:
Pray that God would root your group more deeply in Christ and strengthen your unity in love. Ask Him to guard each person from being easily swayed and to grow a steady, Spirit-led faith that blesses others. Pray for courage to pursue peace and build one another up in love.
