WHAT IS A LIFE HACK?
WE ARE TALKING ABOUT WISDOM.
THIS WEEK: WISDOM’S CALL TO PURITY.
WARNING IN PROVERBS 5-7: THE ADULTEROUS WOMAN
Proverbs 2:16–21
Proverbs 6:23–32 23For this command is a lamp, this teaching is a light, and correction and instruction are the way to life, 24keeping you from your neighbor’s wife, from the smooth talk of a wayward woman. 25Do not lust in your heart after her beauty or let her captivate you with her eyes.
Proverbs 7:24–27 24Now then, my sons, listen to me; pay attention to what I say. 25Do not let your heart turn to her ways or stray into her paths. 26Many are the victims she has brought down; her slain are a mighty throng. 27Her house is a highway to the grave, leading down to the chambers of death.
WHY DOES GOD SAY SO MUCH ABOUT SEXUAL SIN AND PURITY?
TO GET THIS AREA WRONG HURTS AND EVEN KILLS.
JAMES IS THE “PROVERBS” OF THE NEW TESTAMENT. IT REINFORCES PURITY AND GIVES SOLUTION.
James 3:13–18
WISDOM IS PURE.
Pure: not mixed or adulterated with any other substance or material; innocent or morally good
SEXUAL SIN IS IMPLIED IN THE GREEK WORD PORNIA.
SEXUAL SIN IS IN BOTH MIND AND ACTION.
Exodus 20:14–17 14“You shall not commit adultery. 15You shall not steal. 16You shall not give false testimony against your neighbor. 17You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.”
JESUS REVEALS THE INTENT OF THE LAW.
Matthew 5:27–28 27You have heard that it was said, “You shall not commit adultery.” 28But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Hebrews 13:4
WISDOM FROM ABOVE IS CONSIDERATE.
Romans 15:1–2 1We who are strong ought to bear with the failings of the weak and not to please ourselves. 2Each of us should please our neighbors for their good, to build them up.
1 Timothy 2:9–10
WISDOM HELPS PEOPLE SEE WHAT GOD SEES AND VALUE WHAT HE VALUES.
1 Peter 3:1–5
